2004 SECOND HALF YEAR OLED PANTENT ANALYSIS: R.O.K., JAPAN, U.S.

This report grasps the research trend by countries and main research trend by enterprises from the comparison of Rep. of Korea, the United States, Japan and Korean and the United States’ patents were quantities/qualitatively compared analyzed. The technology development and patents related by each fields have a close relationship and preceding patents associated by steps’ influence is very large between company’s competitive powers. It is required to develop patents by work process persistently in order to strengthen market security and products’ competition in future market.

OLED, a future generation display had huge technological progress in 2004. They developed external screen for mobile phone and MP3 players which requires a high requirement PMP settling the market. In 2005, a market is being prepared for PMOLED and AMOLED. Throughout many display exhibitions, a 21 inch screens showed up and 40 inch Tile-style OLED was displayed which is now in progress of enlarging development.

According to patent analysis by application and classification code during second half year in 2004 for Rep. of Korea, the United States, and Japan, 160 of total patents were from Seiko Epson which showed an incomparable patent application activity than others. Eastman Kodak had 99 patents having its second place and showed research progress on other than display application.

Later on, the organic layer patent included the organic material and structure which is analyzed that the origin is the emission efficiency to be high and long life time material development. It has been appeared that double emission light patent is being progressed by SEL.
